ABOUT THIS ROUTE

Travelling to Hampi

Hampi's spread-out ruins reward travellers who arrive by road rather than rail, since the site itself covers several kilometres best explored with a vehicle on hand between temple complexes. The drive from Bangalore runs north via Chitradurga and Hospet, roughly 340 km and 6.5-7 hours depending on your route through Hospet town. Because the terrain around the ruins is boulder-strewn and largely unshaded, most travellers plan to arrive the evening before and explore early morning or late afternoon rather than midday — timing we can build into the pickup schedule. It's a popular route for heritage tourism and photography trips, and a sedan is perfectly comfortable for the highway stretch, though families sometimes prefer the extra space of an Innova for the day spent sightseeing.
